Burghfield Water Tower
TONE Scaffolding Services were engaged by Thames Water, as framework suppliers for access & scaffolding, to provide an access & weather protection scaffolding, and work alongside Thames Water’s reservoir repair/maintenance company Hamblin Watermains for installation of a new weather proofing membrane to the roof and side walls of Burghfield Water Tower.
The water tower is situated more than 25 metres above sea level, on a hill in the Reading area, a is the tallest water tower structure within Thames Water’s operating area. The scaffolding required to be designed by calculation to a height of 30 metres to be able to withstand all prevailing weather elements, including the two recent storms, into the 2nd quarter of 2024. The erecting of the scaffolding proved a challenging task for our operatives due to high winds and driving rain whilst transferring scaffolding materials from the ground to the roof of the structure.
